My aspiration for design has guided me to the interior design program of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. My undergraduate program has elevated my caliber through elaborate and professional training. At Cornish, I have learned to master my interests to a more focused and grounded level by solving real challenges and engaging the most current dialogues within our societies, in which I was able to truly see the complexity of matters and gradually define mydesign identity. In my opinion, design is not merely about making things look pretty. It is the philosophy of solving fundamental problems through responsible, efficient, and sustainable methods. A designer’s efficacy is largely measured by one’s thoroughness of critical thinking and what legacy s/he wants to leave behind. Nevertheless, too many design firms prefer their interns and fresh blood to simply fit their assembly line and just “CAD it”. After all, this model serves best for a profit-prioritized entity, but cash alone will not necessarily push design, as a profession or philosophy, to evolve. That is why I created my own restaurant brand Rice Slurp to prove my stance.
